The Aroma AEW-306 was another wok that came recommended by a friend. I figured I should have a look at it myself to see what all his raving was about. It is a good looking wok with a nice design and strong construction, and it brings the heat for a good stir fry.
I’ll take a closer look at some of the key features as well as look at the nifty design a little more closely below. For those of you who are tired of me blathering on about woks and want to get straight to checking the pricing and reading reviews click HERE.
Aroma AEW-306 Review
The AEW 306 is a nice high capacity wok, coming it at 5-qt. Not quite as large as my personal favorite the Breville EW30XL, but 1 qt less isn’t going much of a difference and sure won’t keep you from feeding a family of four.
Design And Construction
It is sturdily constructed, made of cast metal and a non-stick surface. If you’ve read any of my other electric wok reviews you’ll know I’m a big fan of the non-stick wok. It makes both cooking and cleanup easier. It’s so much nicer to be able to wipe down your Asian Cookware with a sponge and soapy water than spending your time scrubbing a stainless steel wok.
The other nice benefit of the non-stick surface is being able to cook with less oil – which means healthier cooking. If you’ve ever been to a Chinese restaurant you’ve seen how much oil goes into your food with a traditional wok
Another nice feature is that the Aroma AEW-306 is dishwasher safe. That’s a common feature in electric woks, however I really like how the detachable base works. They really did well on this design.
It also comes with a large glass dome lid with steam vents. These are great when you are cooking sauces and curries and need to cook off some of the liquid.
The heat settings are good and you get a wide range of temperatures to cook at for a variety of meals. It has enough heat to make a good stir-fry, which as you may already know is a ‘must have’ feature. Just say no to soggy stir fry’s.
Accessories
The Aroma comes with some nice accessories and some useless ones. On the plus side it comes with a steam rack and a tempura rack to add to your cooking options. You don’t see this on any other woks I’ve taken a look at so far. On the useless side you get a set of large cooking chopsticks. I’m not sure who would really use those, they seem like a novelty item to me. I’ll stick with my wooden or bamboo stir fry utensils thank you very much.
I noticed manual it comes with is pretty basic, a bunch of standard warnings and a few recipes. If you have a few minutes of your life you don’t mind wasting, you can check it out HERE. Enough to get you started, but you’ll want to get yourself a good stir-fry cookbook.
Summary
So, should you buy the Aroma AEW-306? The choice is up to you, but this looks like a great wok. It also gets a lot of great reviews from customers.
Where can you buy this wok? For some reason you can’t find these in your local retail store, but you can find them on Amazon. They usually have the best pricing and good discounts.
While I am still partial to the Breville woks, this is a great value for the money.
